Good Night
02:39
|
|||
Bonfire flicker and a white-hot moon
No one else is around
Drinking backpack beers right down on the river
Throwing all the rocks we found
We could see downtown glowing
Mississippi flowing, and the water swirling around
Somebody said that we outta go swimming
But everybody turned him down
Said it was a good, good night
The water was cold, cold, cold
As we were humming along with a cell phone speaker
Playing Roger Miller, King of the road
I said to that fella that you might as well go
Ahead and seize the day
See, you're from out of town and really who's to know
When you'll ever be back this way?
And he was flying high, three sheets to the wind,
So off came most of his clothes
Then he jumped right in for a little river swim
I guess he didn't mind the cold
Said it was a good, good night
The water was cold, cold, cold
As he were humming along with a cell phone speaker
Playing Roger Miller, King of the road
We got a whiskey buzz just sippin' on a flask
And staring at the fire
You got drunk as hell but it was just as well
You had 30 years under your belt
You said time by the river with all of your pals
Was the best you'd ever felt
By the bonfire flicker and the white-hot moon
With no one else around
Said it was a good, good night
The water was cold, cold, cold
As we were humming along with a cell phone speaker
Playing Roger Miller, King of the road
Said it was a good, good night
The water was cold, cold, cold
As we were humming along with a cell phone speaker
Playing Roger Miller, King of the road

Long, Cold Winter
03:27
|
|||
It's nine below, and my pipes are freezin'
I wish I was somewhere, summer breezin'
Instead I'm on my damn hands and knees
And trying to thaw'em with an old hair dryer
Just last night I near broke my neck
Shoveling snow, I forgot to check
If the ice below was still slick as heck
Turns out it was
It's been a long, cold winter
And I'm not having any fun
It's been a long, cold winter
And I'm counting down the days until it's done
It's mostly dark, it's always cold
You get used to feeling about twice as old
Boxed wine, TV, and staying home
That's a pretty good friday night
On the flip-side you get real tough
Forget you ever even used to sweat small stuff
And when the getting's hard or the going's rough
You know you can endure
It's been a long, cold winter
And I'm not having any fun
It's been a long, cold winter
And I'm counting down the days until it's done
I ain't dead yet and they say that makes you stronger
But it's hard to tell, I mostly feel the same
And I sometimes think I can't take this much longer
But it's hard to picture living any other way
Without these long, cold winters
When I'm not having any fun
Without these long, cold winters
And I'm counting down the days until it's done
I need these long, cold winters
I need not having any fun
So bless these long, cold winters
'Cause they've made me into who I have become
When it's nine below and my pipes are freezin'
I wish I was somewhere, summer breezin'
Instead I'm on my damn hands and knees
And trying to thaw'em with an old hair dryer
